february's tale

I was notified late on a Thursday night that Neil Gaiman was requesting artwork for a contest entitled “A Calendar of Tales”. The due date was Monday at noon CDST and I pulled an all-nighter to get it done. My companions were Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Sinfonia Antarctica (Symphony No.7) and a cherry strudel. Both performed admirably.

Gaiman wrote 12 tales based on answers to questions he posited to fans. I chose to illustrate February’s Tale.

I got this email March 16:

Congratulations! Your attached artwork has been shortlisted by Neil Gaiman and will now go into the final selection round where Neil will review the shortlisted images again and choose the ones to showcase in his interactive digital experience, “A Calendar of Tales”.

All the best,
