I stayed away from all the old fashioned, woodcutty-type covers I had seen of this book, and decided to make something so bold and lurid that it would jump off the shelves. I wanted the design to catch your attention and stare at you throughout the bookstore, no matter where you went. I wanted it to look so contemporary, people would pick it up just to see if it was the same Faust they had been avoiding reading all their lives.
I woke up one morning and painted the art in less than 45 minutes. The design was done by noon-thirty, with a few additional minutes added after a wise critique about type placement. Dig the dapper Vincent Price mustache.
Also, the author’s name is pronounced GER-tah.
